Nicole believes that education is the most important part of being a great stylist. She is committed to lifelong learning so she can constantly innovate and improve for her clients. During her 21 years of experience, she has taken advanced courses from leaders in hairstylist training, including Schwarzkopf, Martin Parsons, Aveda, Goldwell, AG, Toni & Guy and Vidal Sassoon.
She has also been an educator herself, teaching stylists across the city about hair colour techniques for Joico and teaching cosmetology to grade 10 and 11 students at Notre Dame High School in Toronto. Nicole has been working in salons since her teens and quickly moved from part-time assistant to apprentice to salon manager before starting her own salon in 2008.
What do you do for fun?
I love to play pool, read and play games with my family. I enjoy going to the cottage and travelling.
Did you always want to be a hairstylist?
Yes, for as long as I can remember. My sisters always had bad hair cuts because I was ‘practicing’ on them. My Barbie dolls had no hair and I was constantly getting brushes caught in my own hair.
What do you like to chat about with your clients?
I love chatting about tv series, new movies and books. I also love finding out where in the world my clients have travelled and what food, restaurants and wine they love. I also like the odd meaningful conversation where we try to figure out the world together.
Alyssa first realized her passion for hairstyling in grade eleven, when she used her lunch breaks to colour and style her friends’ hair. After studying graphic design at George Brown college, Alyssa decided to pursue her passion for hairstyling as a career.
Alyssa has worked as a stylist since attending beauty school in 2012 and joined Manzer in 2018. Her creative energy, easy going nature and commitment to upgrading her skills make her a great addition to the Manzer team.
What do you do for fun?
When I’m not working, I’m out for walks in the Don Valley, playing video games, or hosting wine and cheese nights or whisky tastings with friends.
Did you always want to be a hairstylist?
I was always going to be a hairstylist, I just didn’t always know it. I was always giving myself and my friends the latest trend of hairstyle or hair colour.
What do you like to chat about with your clients?
Food is always a common topic of conversation. But I love talking about travel plans, home renovations, new shows or movies or the best places to get a great beer on the Danforth. Pretty much any topic of conversation that results in a good laugh or a recommendation of a cool new place to go.
Jessica has both a longstanding passion for hair—she was her mom’s stylist by the time she was 10—and a wealth of customer service experience. This winning combination makes Jessica great at listening to her clients and delivering exactly the cut and colour they’re looking for.
A natural artist, Jessica started her professional career in hair as an apprentice at Manzer in 2014 and has happily continued her education learning new cutting and colour techniques. Her drive to succeed, not only for herself but her son, shows that you can be a parent and have a successful career.
What do you do for fun?
I like spending time outside with my son and daughter.
Did you always want to be a hairstylist?
Yes, since I was little playing with Barbies.
What do you like to chat about with your clients?
I’ll chat about anything but I love discussing parenting and movies.
Sage is driven by a passion for making people feel great about themselves. A creative soul from small-town Huntsville, Sage’s journey started with studying ceramics and then general arts. She excelled at 3D art and graphic design, but neither were the career for her. After spending some time in Vancouver, Sage returned to Ontario to go to hair school. Her first salon job was in Toronto’s upscale Yorkville neighbourhood, but it wasn’t the right fit. Manzer’s down-to-earth, friendly energy is more Sage’s style and we are happy to have her!
What do you do for fun?I love spending time with friends and family. Being outdoors in nature—I love visiting the beach—is also important to me and I enjoy camping, kayaking, hiking and skiing. /p>
Did you always want to be a hairstylist?
I always did hair as a fun thing on the side with friends and family, and I always knew I wanted to be creative and work with my hands, but it took me a while to put the two together.
What do you like to chat about with your clients?I’m a chatter. I talk about food, movies, TV shows, animals (mostly pets), news, hair and hair products, relationships, work, life. It all depends on who’s in the chair. I can get a six-year-old talking about Pokémon for 20 minutes!
Beatrice is our newest hair magician in training! Bea passionate about and loves meeting chatting with new people.
What do you do for fun?I love to cook and challenge myself to try new recipes. I also practice cutting my friends’ and family’s hair.
Did you always want to be a hairstylist?
No. I actually had no idea that becoming a hairstylist was the right move for me until summer 2019. I used to dye my best friend’s hair when we were younger and always got compliments on how it turned out, but I didn’t think much of it until I went blonde and realized how expensive the upkeep is. I decided that I could learn to do it myself to save some money and that is when I fell in love with the process.
What do you like to chat about with your clients?Having a retail background gives me a variety of topics to talk about with my clients, so it just depends on what we start chatting about. My go to topic is usually current events in their lives or in the media!
